Our Story

OTM is a 100% woman owned, Level 1 Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) entity with 135% B-BBEE procurement recognition. OTM specialises in environmental consulting services in the developmental and industrial sectors. 

The company was established in 2004 (Close Corporation Number 2004/113308/23) and is an empowering supplier in terms of the Department of Trade and Industry Codes of Good Practice.

OTM is based in Somerset West in the Western Cape and has undertaken projects in various provinces throughout South Africa such as in the Western Cape, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, Free State and Gauteng.

As owner and lead environmental consultant of OTM, Vivienne Thomson has over 20 years industry experience in the construction, power generation and mining sectors, of which over 16 years have been as an independent consultant and environmental assessment practitioner.

Vivienne holds a BSc in Zoology from the University of Cape Town (1995) and is reading towards an MSc in Environmental Science. She has completed an ISO 14001 Lead Auditors course, as well as several environmental short courses and has guest lectured for the MSc in Environmental Science Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) course at the University of the Witwatersrand.  She is a member of the National Association for Clean Air (NACA) and has served as NACA National Council Member. Vivienne is a collaborator with the NGO Umvoto Africa and a past member of the South African Coal Ash Association, as well as an affiliate of the Institute of Innovators and Inventors. From 2009 to 2012, Vivienne was a member of the Committee of Interested Parties which acted as an independent, advisory body to ensure impartiality of Pricewaterhouse Coopers’ ISO Certification Body in their governance and sustainability division.

Since 2004, Vivienne has been involved in environmental consulting with experience in EIAs, establishing and implementing ISO 14001 compliant management systems, training, legal compliance/due diligence evaluations, site and contract management, as well as developing, implementing and assessing environmental management plans and monitoring programmes.

Based on the nature of the project, OTM’s service offering in environmental management and sustainable development will be executed through the company’s permanent staff, associated consultants, specialist resources or review environmental assessment practitioners.
